Vanilla Leaf is a member of the Berberidaceae, more often associated with woody shrubs like Barberry. A lovely and common element of Western forests, its three leaflets hold shimmering drops of water after a rain. Also known as Sweet After Death for the scent of dried leaves, early settlers sometimes kept a few tucked into their clothes trunks.
