Another endangered species endemic to the islands. Known as Ko'oloa'ula in Hawaiian, it is a lovely low shrub with velvety grey green leaves and small saturated pink to maroon bells. The species name refers to the great Scottish surgeon-botanist Archibald Menzies, who spent three winters in Hawaii during the 1790's.
